Description: This refined kurotomesode kimono captures a stunning and intricate vision of courtly life in historical Japan, masterfully painted along the entire lower half. The scene features elegant noblewomen and dignified gentlemen dressed in traditional attire, gathered in and around a classic shogunate-style residence with open tatami rooms and wooden verandas. Surrounding them flows a serene river, with flourishing seasonal landscapes including towering matsu (pine trees), vibrant momiji (maple leaves), and the soft bloom of ume (plum blossoms). A majestic mountain backdrop and blooming gardens lend the entire composition a sense of poetic serenity and timeless grace.

Fabric: Made from fine silk, this kimono showcases the celebrated yuzen dyeing technique, known for its painterly effect and detailed, hand-applied designs. The artistry is rich in color, depth, and texture, making the lower portion appear like a living painting that wraps around the body.

Style: This formal kurotomesode features a deep black upper field, traditionally worn by married women for formal occasions. It is adorned with five white ume (plum) family crests (kamon), a mark of high prestige and impeccable formality. The placement and contrast of the crests against the black silk enhance the garment’s elegance.

Condition: In good condition, this piece maintains vibrant, detailed artwork with only minimal signs of wear. It is a superb addition to any kimono collection or a distinguished choice for ceremonial wear.
